It was December 26, 2004 when the wave that shook the world happened. It was a deadly tsunami that hit the coast of Indonesia, killing 250,000 people in nearly 12 countries. This massive tsunami was cause by an underwater earthquake which was due to subduction between the Burma and Indian Plate. Due to this sudden release of pressure, water became displaced and this water was pushed by the wind towards the beaches.
In the open sea as the water gained speed it also gained power. When the wave was noticed by fishermen they only felt a rough wave, but this could not be said for those on the beach. The waves pulled back drastically cause people to run forward to try to catch the flopping fish. These people didn't know that the water pulling back was a sign of a tsunami however they must have realized it once they say the wall of oncoming water. Most people weren't able to outrun the tsunami. The tsunami killed many people and destroyed buildings the first time but the people were not ready for a second strike. The tsunami hit again causing devastation within families and cities. This was the wave that shook the world.
